The Division of Pediatric Nephrology is widely recognized as the regional lead for specialized clinical services for complex kidney diseases, and the hub for training and research in pediatric nephrology. The Division provides comprehensive care for a variety of acute and chronic kidney diseases delivered through the inpatient ward, daycare and dialysis unit, and outpatient clinics.
The Division provides opportunities for training, research & education in Pediatric Nephrology. Training options for postgraduate specialty training include a 3-year DM program and 3-12 months Fellowship trainings supported by the International Pediatric Nephrology Association, Indian Society of Pediatric Nephrology and the Indian Academy of Pediatrics. The Division organizes Training Courses in the specialty for residents in paediatrics, practising paediatricians, dialysis nurses and allied personnel.
The Division is the Secretariat for the Indian Society of Pediatric Nephrology and the Asian Journal of Pediatric Nephrology. Its faculty hasled the development of national clinical practice guidelines on several kidney disorders, including nephrotic syndrome, urinary tract infections, antenatal hydronephrosis and hemolytic uremic syndrome, and actively participated in development of international consensus guidelines for various kidney diseases.
The Division has been at the forefront of conceptualizing, planning and implementing clinical research, which has directly impacted international and national management guidelines on nephrotic syndrome, hemolytic uremic syndrome and urinary tract infections. National registries linked to biorepositories have been established for atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome, nephrotic syndrome and vesicoureteric reflux. Complement studies, including anti-FH antibodies, established in the department, are utilized by colleagues from across the country. Based on its contributions to research on nephrotic syndrome, urinary infections and chronic kidney disease, the Division has been recognized by the Indian Council of Medical Research as a Centre for Advanced Research in Kidney Diseases since March 2017.
