About Us

The division of Pediatric Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, department of Pediatrics at AIIMS New Delhi provide expertise for children with wide spectrum of rheumatic disorders through inpatient, outdoor, speciality clinic and day care services. The division is one of the few leading centres in public sector which provide dedicated pediatric rheumatology services.

The division provides holistic care to various rheumatic disorders such juvenile idiopathic arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, juvenile dermatomyositis, vasculitis and auto-inflammatory syndromes. Through a robust inter and intradepartmental collaboration the team has the expertise of managing various complex rheumatic disorders.


In collaboration with Indian Academy of Pediatrics the division has contributed in formulating the parenting guidance document for rheumatic disorders. Guideline for Rheumatic Disorders

The division offers a specialised senior residency program in Pediatric Rheumatology.


In addition to delivering the clinical care through inpatient, OPD and weekly speciality Clinic we also provide specialised services in rheumatology such as diagnostic and therapeutic procedures like US guidedsynovial biopsy and intra-articular steroid administration (https://www.indianpediatrics.net/july2018/CV612.mp4).
We also use nailfold capillaroscopy for research and clinical use.

The research interests include:

• Juvenile idiopathic arthritis,
• Juvenile dermatomyositis,
• Childhood lupus,
• Vasculitis and macrophage activation syndrome

The division is leading research in the field through various intramural and extramural funded projects.

Collaborations (National/ International)

The division has academic collaborations with national and international scientific bodies. The division partnered with division of Rheumatology, Gaslini Institute, Genoa, Italy as a part of sister hospital initiative of Pediatric Rheumatology European society (PReS).
